Police: Man sustained 'multiple injuries' in East Lyme crash

East Lyme — After being called to a residence for a reported head injury early Monday morning, police said they found a man suffering from several injuries he apparently sustained in a car crash.

Police said officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded to an address on Roxbury Road around 12:30 a.m. for the reported head injury. There they found a 23-year-old man “suffering from multiple injuries.” Police did not specify what those injuries were.

Police investigated and said they learned the injuries likely stemmed from an earlier crash on East Pattagansett Road. Chief Mike Finkelstein said the crash happened near East Pattagansett Court and involved just one vehicle, but two occupants.

According to Finkelstein, the 23-year-old somehow ended up outside the vehicle and was hit by it. After the collision, the other occupant of the car drove the victim to the Roxbury Road home.

Police, Finkelstein said, are trying to determine whether the man fell from the car or jumped from it.

An ambulance took the man to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. He later was transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
