Early Thursday crash in Waterford leaves Uncasville man dead
Waterford — A fatal, single-car crash forced crews to close Interstate 395 south for almost three hours Thursday morning.
According to the state Department of Transportation, the wreck happened about 2 miles beyond Exit 2 just after 2:30 a.m. That would put the spot of the crash near I-395's intersection with Interstate 95.
According to state police, Stephen Richard Davis Wilmot, 23, of 2 McCulley Place, Uncasville, was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry south when he traveled off the roadway and into a rock face.
Police said the car Wilmot was driving then traveled back across the roadway, colliding with a guard rail before coming to a stop in the median.
Wilmot sustained fatal injuries in the wreck, which remained under investigation.
Anyone with information related to the crash is asked to call Troop E at (860) 848-6500 and ask for Trooper Justin Clachrie.
