Lyme — A local man has been charged with stealing almost $2,300 by forging checks and photocopying a debit card that belonged to his former girlfriend.

State police on Sunday served a warrant on Eugene M. DiNuzzo, 45, at his 20 Oak St. home. They charged him with fifth-degree larceny, credit card theft, third-degree identity theft, three counts of third-degree forgery and 11 counts of sixth-degree larceny.

The arrest warrant affidavit says the victim, whose name is not included, told police DiNuzzo was living with her last October when she discovered three checks made out to DiNuzzo, totaling $1,600, and eight transactions at local businesses, worth $683.56, that weren't hers. She and DiNuzzo were no longer in a relationship at the time.

The affidavit says DiNuzzo admitted to forging the checks and making the transactions with a photocopy of the victim's bank card.

Released on a $5,000 surety bond, DiNuzzo is due in New London Superior Court March 20.
