Ledyard police charge man with burglarizing hotel room, stealing car

Ledyard -- Police charged a Massachusetts man Friday night with breaking into a hotel room at the Two Trees Inn and stealing more than $1,500 in cash and several credit cards and then stealing a car.

Ringo M. Sousa, 33, of Salem, Mass., was charged with second-degree burglary, criminal mischief, second-degree larceny of a motor vehicle, fourth-degree larceny, interfering with a police officer and criminal impersonation.

According to police, they received a call at 10:09 p.m. from a guest at the Indiantown Road inn who said someone has gone into her hotel room by cutting the screen and entering through the window. While police responded, the woman said her car was missing from the parking lot and her credit card had just been used at the Mohegan Sun. Ledyard police notified Mohegan Sun Tribal Police and at 10:37 p.m., the vehicle was located in one of the Sun parking lots. Mohegan Sun police then located Sousa walking back to the car.

Police said Sousa was found to be in possession of the keys to the stolen car and numerous items he had purchased at the Mohegan Sun with the stolen credit card. While being booked, police said he gave a false name and “destroyed a piece of identification trying to hide his real identity.”
