Groton — Town police and other emergency crews on Wednesday recovered a body near Spicer’s Marina — a body not believed to be that of the kayaker who went missing in Old Saybrook on Monday nor the boaters who launched from UConn Avery Point on Sunday.

A caller reported seeing the body near the marina's mooring field at 11:30 a.m.

Chief Louis J. Fusaro Jr. said the town police department’s boat was first on scene just before noon. The Coast Guard, state Environmental Conservation Police and Mystic Fire Department also responded.

Police did not provide any information about the body and did not identify the person, but said the death is not thought to be suspicious. Groton Town detectives are investigating.

Police and Coast Guard vessels surrounded a sailboat in the water near the marina Wednesday afternoon and the boat later was towed to shore.

Spicer’s Marina, which sits at the northern tip of West Cove, is at 93 Marsh Road in Noank.

The boaters who launched from UConn Avery Point — 20-year-old Spencer Mugford and 21-year-old Sofia McKenna — were last seen in a Snapchat post uploaded at 2 a.m. Sunday. The boat they were on, which belongs to Avery Point, was recovered Monday night near Orient Point in Long Island. The Coast Guard called off its search for them later Monday night.

William Zadrozny, 18, went kayaking Monday afternoon from North Cove in Old Saybrook and never returned. A good Samaritan found his overturned kayak about 5 p.m. Monday. The Coast Guard called off that search Tuesday evening.
