Man charged with leaving dog in hot car in New London

New London — Police on Sunday rescued a dog from a locked vehicle with closed windows and charged its owner with cruelty to animals.

Police at 5:36 p.m. went to Hillside Road near Lower Boulevard, where they found the vehicle in question, broke one of its windows and retrieved the dog.

Police placed the dog in an air-conditioned cruiser and gave it water. Police said the dog appeared to recover after “a brief period” of time.

It reached 89 degrees in New London Sunday, Weather Underground records show.

Forty-three-year-old Ian Adolphe of Springfield, Mass., was released on a $1,500 bond. Information about his next court date wasn’t available.
