The murder trial of the man accused of fatally shooting Joey Gingerella in Groton in December 2016, scheduled to begin Tuesday in New London Superior Court, has been postponed a day because some of the jurors selected last month have notified the court they are unable to serve.

Prosecutor Paul J. Narducci and defense attorney Walter D. Hussey had selected 12 regular members and four alternates to hear the case of Dante A. Hughes. Since then, three jurors said they could not serve. A fourth was scheduled to be interviewed in court Tuesday morning to determine whether she is able to serve, then jury selection is set to resume to complete the panel.

Hughes, 32, has pleaded not guilty to murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and criminal possession of a firearm. He has been incarcerated since authorities said he attempted to flee to Canada after shooting Gingerella, 24, in the parking lot of Ryan's Pub when Gingerella and others intervened in an alleged domestic dispute between Hughes and his girlfriend, Latoya Knight.
