Coast Guard rescues 3 after boat capsizes off Fishers Island
The U.S. Coast Guard rescued three people whose 20-foot boat got caught in a lobster trap and capsized Friday morning in Fishers Island Sound.
A caller said three people north of Fishers Island were clinging to the hull of the pleasure craft at 7:50 a.m.
Coast Guard Station New London and the Stonington and Watch Hill police departments sent boats to the scene.
The Coast Guard said it reached the people, who were drifting in the water, and brought them aboard safely.
The Coast Guard plans to warn boaters about the capsized vessel, which is near Wicopesset buoy No. 7, and later to salvage the boat.
No pollution has been reported in the area.
