Jerome Hudson, accused of fatally stabbing Travon Brown in New London on Dec. 17, 2017, waived his right to a probable cause hearing and pleaded not guilty to murder during his appearance Monday in Superior Court.

Hudson has been incarcerated since he was arrested on unrelated drug charges on the day of the homicide. Police obtained a warrant five days later charging him with murder.

New London Police said Brown identified Hudson, a longtime friend he referred to as "Black," as his killer during a dying declaration when police were called to 22 Grand St. for a report of a stabbing. The police allege that Hudson, 28, stabbed Brown, 27, in retaliation for a Nov. 8, 2017, incident on Mountain Avenue in which Brown stabbed Hudson. The nature of their dispute has not been revealed in court.  

Hudson, also known as Irving Jerome Hudson, is represented by attorney Christopher Duby, who told Judge Hillary B. Strackbein during Hudson's appearance Monday that Hudson is waiving his right to a hearing at which the state would have to prove it has enough evidence to prosecute him for a crime that could land him in prison for the rest of his life. Attorneys will now begin discussing whether the case be be resolved short of trial.

Hudson's next court date is Aug. 13.
