A 29-year-old man free on bond in two narcotics cases in New London Superior Court was arrested Sunday at a New London hotel and charged with shooting two men in Hartford last week.

Abdul-Hakim Ali, a repeat felony offender who has provided authorities with addresses in New London, East Hartford and Torrington, is accused of shooting Ross Stone, 35, of West Hartford and Elijah Adorno, 25, of Hartford on Dec. 27. Stone died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to a news release issued by Hartford police spokesman Lt. Paul C. Cicero. Adorno underwent surgery at St. Francis Hospital for gunshot wounds to the legs and stomach and was expected to survive.

Members of the Hartford Police Department's Vice, Intelligence and Narcotics Division and Hartford's U.S. Marshal's Violent Fugitive Task Force located Ali in a room at the Clarion Inn on Frontage Road in New London at 1:04 a.m. Sunday and took him into custody, according to police. He was charged with murder, first-degree assault and criminal possession of a firearm and is being held in lieu of $1 million at the Hartford Correctional Center.

Court records indicate Ali had posted a $100,000 surety bond after New London police charged him on July 5, 2018, with five counts of sale of narcotics. State police from Troop E in Montville charged him on Oct. 26, 2018, with additional drug-related crimes and he was released after posting a $100,000 nonsurety bond.

In June 2017, Groton Town police and the Regional Community Enhancement Task Force charged him with selling heroin out of a local hotel. Court records indicate he pleaded guilty to reduced charges of marijuana possession and served a 120-day jail sentence. He also has convictions for robbery and illegal gun possession and is listed on the state's deadly weapon offender registry.

According to Hartford police, the Dec. 27 homicide occurred near 451 Garden St. after Ali was dropped off by the unidentified driver of a rented black Nissan Rogue. The police dispatch center received a ShotSpotter activation that seven gunshots were fired in the area of Garden and Pliny streets, followed by several 911 calls reporting that two people had been shot. The ShotSpotter system uses acoustic sensors and triangulation to pinpoint the location of gunfire.

Stone, the homicide victim, was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at 5:05 p.m. Adorno was located one block south and was in stable condition after undergoing surgery.

The rental car was located the following morning and Ali, whose cellphone was pinging in New London, was traced to the hotel, according to police.
