Groton — Two southeastern Connecticut natives have joined the Groton Town Police Department, police said Friday.

Police said Waterford native Mitchell Chapman previously was a community service officer in Waterford, a dispatcher in East Lyme and a Goshen volunteer firefighter. He has a bachelor’s degree from Franklin Pierce University, where he majored in criminal justice and minored in sociology.

Michael Farnsworth of Mystic worked as a general contractor before signing on with Groton Town police. He has a bachelor’s from Western Connecticut State University, where he majored in justice and law administration with a focus in law enforcement.

Chapman and Farnsworth entered the Connecticut Police Academy on Dec. 31, 2018, and are scheduled to complete state training in June 2019.

Both will join the Patrol Division after they complete field training in Groton.
