Four displaced by Groton fire Sunday night

Groton — State and local officials are investigating the cause of a fire that significantly damaged the interior of a home at 90 Meryl Court late Sunday night, injuring two of the four people — all adults — living there, all of whom were displaced, Joe Winski, the Poquonnock Bridge fire chief, said Monday.

One of the injured was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, Winski said.

Poquonnock Bridge firefighters responded to the fire shortly after 9:30 p.m. Sunday and were joined by firefighters from the Mystic, Old Mystic, Groton City and Submarine Base departments, according to Winski. Groton Ambulance and Groton Town police also responded, he said.

Winski estimated that more than 30 firefighters responded and remained on the scene for about two hours. He said the Poquonnock Bridge fire marshal’s office and the state fire marshal’s office are investigating.

The American Red Cross came to the aid of the victims.
