Man arrested on heroin, fentanyl charges in Niantic after foot chase

East Lyme — An Asheville, N.C., man with a history of drug trafficking charges was arrested Thursday morning on heroin, fentanyl and narcotics charges following a police chase, according to the East Lyme Police Department.

Colten Heath, 30, was charged with possession of heroin with intent to sell, possession of fentanyl with intent to sell, possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia, interfering with an officer and tampering with evidence.

About 10:07 a.m. Thursday, police received an anonymous report of suspicious activity involving a U-Haul truck in the Niantic Motel parking lot on Flanders Road, the incident report stated.

Officers arrived and contacted Heath, but he suddenly fled on foot into the wooded area behind the motel, dropping evidence along the way, police said. Officers followed him to an area near an apartment complex on King Arthur Drive, where they took him into custody.

East Lyme and Waterford K-9 units found heroin and fentanyl along the route of the pursuit, police said. Heath was taken to the Waterford Police Department and held on a $25,000 bond.
