Region sees accidents, some flooding amid rainy weather
Accidents and flooding caused road closures and traffic backups throughout the region on Thursday.
Interstate 95 north was closed between exits 73 and 74 in East Lyme because of a jackknifed truck on Thursday afternoon, the state Department of Transportation said in an alert. The 1:30 p.m. incident was causing significant backup on both sides of the highway. State police said there were minor injuries but no other information was immediately available.
Additionally, East Lyme police Chief Michael Finkelstein said flooding on Main Street at Pennsylvania Avenue caused a brief road closure about 3 p.m.
At 2:15 p.m., the Department of Transportation reported delays due to congestion on I-95 southbound between exits 81 and 73 in Waterford, and at 3:32 p.m., delays due to congestion on I-95 northbound between exits 70 and 74 in Old Lyme.
About 4 p.m., the Waterford Police Department reported that Route 32 north by Benham Road was closed due to a five-car motor vehicle accident.
