Ledyard woman killed in Route 2A crash

Preston — A 36-year-old Ledyard woman died Saturday morning after she lost control of her car on Route 2A near the intersection of Harris Fuller Road and it landed upside down in Poqeutanuck Cove, state police said.

Sadie Ensling of 145 Gallup Hill Road was pulled from the car by Brian Williams of Preston, who lost control of his own vehicle in an attempt to avoid Ensling's car, according to an accident report. Williams provided Ensling with CPR and first aid at the scene of the 9:09 a.m. crash. The Preston Fire Department took Ensling to The William W. Backus Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

According to the report, Ensling was traveling west in a 2002 Lexus ES 300 when she failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, crossed the opposite lane and struck a guardrail. The car continued along the top of the guardrail, went airborne and came to a final rest on its roof in the cove. It wasn't clear whether she was wearing a seat belt, and there was no airbag deployment, according to the report.

Williams was driving east. While attempting to avoid Ensling's oncoming car, he lost control and his car slid approximately 250 feet before coming to a final rest in the right shoulder. He was treated on the scene for minor injuries.
