New London — The New London Fire Department quickly contained a small cooking fire at 123 Ashcraft Road on Tuesday morning.

Several units responded to reports of smoke throughout the first floor of the apartment home about 8 a.m., with Chief Thomas Curcio saying the source was a microwave. The multifamily building was evacuated and no injuries were reported, firefighters said.

After extinguishing the fire, firefighters checked throughout the house for any extension, but Curcio said the brief fire only caused smoke damage to the home.
