Stonington — Town police say they are investigating a reported domestic violence incident in which a woman was stabbed.

A neighbor called police about 8:13 a.m. Saturday to report a domestic disturbance at a Mechanic Street residence, Stonington police Capt. Todd Olson said. On arrival, officers found a woman suffering from stab wounds. She was transported to Westerly Hospital, Olson said, where she was being treated.

In a news release shortly before noon Saturday, police said the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle as officers arrived.

State Police Eastern District Major Crimes Squad is assisting Stonington detectives with the investigation. Officers were still at the scene as of 11 a.m.

No further information was immediately available.
