Norwich man faces assault, other charges in struggle with police
Norwich — An 18-year-old man faces multiple charges after police say he became combative with police, who used a stun gun on him, during the investigation of a domestic violence incident.
N’Namdi Smart-Hutchinson Jr. of 141 Dunham St. was charged early Monday morning with two counts of third-degree criminal mischief and one count each of disorderly conduct, interfering with police and assault on a public safety officer. He was held on a $25,000 bond and was arraigned Monday in Norwich Superior Court.
Police said while investigating an alleged domestic violence incident at an apartment on East Baltic Street, Smart-Hutchinson became combative with police officers, who used a stun gun to subdue him. Smart-Hutchinson then allegedly damaged the inside of a police cruiser while he was being transported to the Norwich police station.
Police said he again became combative during the booking process while police were attempting to do a medical examination for the stun gun use.
Police said two police officers sustained minor injuries during the struggle.
