New London — The owner of a company offering to paint curbs with reflective address numbers in the city said his proposed work is not a scam.

But Ryan O’Connor, who said he is associated with MyTurn LLC and Connecticut Curb Appeal LLC, will not be performing the advertised work without proper permits in place, which he has yet to obtain.

In response to the company’s flyers showing up on doors in the city’s south end, city officials on Wednesday issued a warning to residents of a possible scam. The city had not authorized any vendor permits to paint curbs and asked residents to contact police if approached by the company.

O’Connor said he did not notify the city what he was planning and said he now is seeking the proper permits.
