New London firefighters extinguish basement fire; three occupants uninjured

New London — Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire Tuesday afternoon in the basement of the house at 68 Raymond St. and safely led the three occupants out of the house.

The residents were not injured and were not displaced by the fire, Battalion Chief Mark Waters said.

All on-duty firefighters responded to the fire at 2:09 p.m. Tuesday and brought it under control in a half-hour, the fire department said. They used one hose line to extinguish the basement blaze.

The damage from the fire was contained to the furnace area and contents of the basement, Waters said.

The New London Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire.
