State police to conduct drunken-driving patrol Memorial Day weekend

Connecticut State Police at Montville’s Troop E barracks announced they will be conducting an aggressive drunken-driving enforcement campaign over the Memorial Day holiday weekend through Monday, May 25.

Additional state troopers from Troop E will be working throughout the holiday period to ensure the “highest possible degree of safety,” state police wrote in a news release, patrolling the area in an effort to detect and apprehend intoxicated drivers. State troopers also will be strictly enforcing seat-belt and distracted-driving laws, as well as other motor vehicle laws.

Excessive speed, intoxicated drivers, distracted drivers and the lack of wearing a seat belt “needlessly claim the lives of motorists on Connecticut roadways every year,” state police wrote. “We will continue to utilize all of the resources at our disposal to identify those operators who violate these laws and will take strict enforcement action against them."

Police did not specify which areas they will patrol.
