New London — A man suffered a gunshot wound Tuesday night in an incident that police say "does not appear to be a random act."

About 7:11 p.m., city police responded to a call reporting shots fired and a possible victim in the area of Cleveland and West streets, according to a late night news release. Officers said they found a "semiconcious" adult male with a gunshot wound in the yard of a residence.

He was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment, the release said. No further information about the man or his condition was immediately available.

Detectives went to the scene to collect evidence and the investigation remains active, police said.

Police urge anyone with information on the incident to call detectives at (860) 447-1481. Anonymous information can be submitted by texting NLPDTip plus the information to 847411.
