Man charged with biting police officer in Groton
Groton — A Massachusetts man has been charged with biting a police officer Tuesday in the City of Groton after stealing a car from Massachusetts, police say.
City police said they responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Ledyard Avenue about 10 a.m. Tuesday and found 27-year-old Maciej Baczek of Paxton, Mass., in a Toyota Camry that had been reported stolen out of Massachusetts.
Officers attempted to arrest Baczek, who "violently resisted" and bit an officer, police said.
Baczek was charged with assault on a police officer, interfering with a police officer and second-degree larceny. He was being held on a $50,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court in New London on Wednesday.
The officer received medical treatment at a hospital and was expected to return to duty soon, police said. Information on where on his body he was bitten was not released.
