Salem -- Two adults were injured when a school bus rolled over Monday morning on Route 85, police said. No children were on the bus.

State police said the bus was traveling south with two adults on board when it went off the road, struck a mail box, slammed headfirst into a stone wall and rolled over onto the passenger side near Lexington Trail about 6:05 a.m.

The driver, Andrea Malarkey, 40, of Willimantic, was flown by Life Star to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The passenger, 62-year-old Stephen Edward, also of Willimantic, suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Marlborough Medical Clinic, police said.

Sections of Route 85 remained closed through the morning and drivers were being asked to take alternative routes.

It was not immediately known what caused the crash or whether anyone else was involved. State police are investigating.
