New London laundromat damaged by dryer fire

New London — Kino Laundry and Multiservices, 191 Jefferson Ave., is probably going to be closed for a while following significant damage from a dryer fire that broke out about 2 p.m. Saturday, New London Fire Chief Thomas Curcio said Saturday evening.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause, Curcio said. The fire department also called in the health department to the nail salon next door, as there was a lot of smoke there.

Curcio said it probably took 10 to 15 minutes to put out the fire.

Earlier in the day, at the scene, Battalion Chief Mark Waters said all on-duty firefighters were on scene for the dryer fire, which extended into the ceiling. Nothing appeared suspicious and there were no injuries.

Waters said there was smoke throughout the building, and firefighters had to ventilate the laundromat and the nail salon.
