Groton man charged in assault of girlfriend

Groton — A Groton man faces multiple criminal charges related to an alleged Dec. 17 assault of a woman at a Groton hotel.

Randall C. Holman, 24, of 388 Long Hill Road is charged with third-degree assault, first-degree unlawful restraint and second-degree strangulation.

Police were called to Gold Star Inn & Suites, 605 Gold Star Highway, on Dec. 17 for reports of a woman screaming “call 911,” a police report shows.

The woman told police she and Holman had been in an argument that became physical when Holman grabbed her by the neck and slammed her head into a wall five times after she threw his cellphone in the toilet. She had struggled to breathe during the incident and said she also was punched in the face.

The woman, who said she was dating Holman, told police she did not want him arrested. Holman denied striking her.

Public records show Holman is free on a $50,000 bond in the case. He has several pending criminal cases in New London Superior Court stemming from arrests in New London, Waterford and Groton. Those cases include criminal mischief, interfering with police and burglary charges.
