New London — Police are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a city man early Friday morning on Pequot Avenue.

Police on Friday afternoon identified the deceased as Jose Sancho, 28, of New London, and said his next of kin had been notified.

At 1:40 a.m. police received a 911 call reporting a one-car accident with serious injuries on Pequot Avenue at Glenwood Avenue.

The driver, Sancho, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said in a statement that members of the department’s investigative services division and accident reconstruction team have an ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash.

Pequot Avenue was closed between Quinnepeag Avenue and Chapel Drive. A portion of Glenwood Avenue, between Montauk Avenue and Pequot Avenue, also was closed to through traffic.
