    Norwich fire displaces two people

Norwich — The American Red Cross is helping two adults who were displaced from a single-family home on Tyler Avenue after a two-alarm fire broke out Monday morning, Norwich Fire Chief Tracy Montoya said.

No residents or firefighters were injured.

The chief said the fire at 4 Tyler Ave. was called in at 11:27 a.m. and knocked down at 11:50, and firefighters remained on scene for about another 90 minutes. One person was home at the time of the fire.

The fire originated on the exterior of the house in the back, and there was fire damage to the rear wall, in the second-floor bedrooms, and in the stairwell, Montoya said. There's also some water damage on the first floor.

Montoya said there was heavy damage to the home but it's not a total loss.

He said the Norwich, East Great Plain and Yantic fire departments responded, with assistance from Mohegan Tribal Fire Department, American Ambulance, Norwich Public Utilities, Canteen Services, and the building department.

Montoya said Monday afternoon the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
