Two people taken to hospital with minor injuries after car accident in Gales Ferry

Ledyard — Two people were taken to the hospital for minor injuries following a car accident at Whalehead Road and Route 12 about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Gales Ferry Volunteer Fire Company Chief Anthony Saccone said.

He said it was a two-car accident with no passengers in either vehicle and was almost a head-on collision. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Saccone said an elderly woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries — he said her chief complaint was chest pain, which could have been from the seat belt or airbag — and a young man had a wrist injury.

He said the man was driving a delivery van and fortunately wasn't going very fast.

Saccone said Route 12 was closed for about 40 minutes.

Also responding to the scene were the Ledyard Fire Department, American Ambulance, Groton Ambulance and L+M Paramedics.
