Suspect arrested in multiple robberies in Connecticut and North Carolina

Waterford — A suspect sought in multiple robberies in Connecticut and North Carolina this year was arrested in Charlotte, N.C., and taken into custody Tuesday by Waterford police.

On Jan. 2, town police responded to a robbery at the People's United Bank on Broad Street. The suspect did not display any weapons and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. Police investigated and tied the suspect to additional robberies in the state and North Carolina.

The suspect, Ramion Baker, 40, of Charlotte previously lived in Ledyard. He was identified through the work of several law enforcement agencies, including the Shelton and Stratford police departments, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Sheriff's Office and the FBI's Violent Crime Task Force. Waterford police obtained an extraditable arrest warrant for Baker, and members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Sheriff's Office arrested him in Charlotte as a fugitive from justice.

On Monday, Waterford police detectives traveled to North Carolina, where Baker was being held. On Tuesday, they took Baker into custody, transported him to Connecticut and processed him at the town police department.

Baker is charged with second-degree robbery and third-degree larceny. He was held in lieu of a $200,000 court-set bond and was scheduled to appear in the G.A. 10 court in New London on Wednesday.
