    Norwich police investigating Sunday night homicide

    Norwich — Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 46-year-old man Sunday night.

    Police said mid-day Monday in a press release that around 9:34 p.m. Sunday, police responded to 90 North St. for a reported shooting. The victim was transported to Backus Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Police are not releasing the name of the victim at this time, pending notification of his family.

    Police said the incident appears to be a targeted attack, and the perpetrator or perpetrators fled the scene.

    The Norwich Police Department mobile command center and the state police major crime squad unit were parked at the large, white apartment building located off East Baltic Street throughout the morning Monday. Yellow crime scene tape was stretched across the front parking lot and right side of the three-story, 17-unit building, which is part of Mohegan Commons apartment complex.

    Officers wearing white protective garments could be seen going in and out of the building taking photos. Police patrol officers and detectives were investigating.
