    UPDATED: Car suspended over embankment in Norwich crash

    Norwich -- A person had to be extricated from a car after it crashed through the guardrail, wedged against a handrail and was left partially suspended over a 12-foot-high embankment early Sunday morning at 44 W. Thames St.  

    According to the city fire department, the car was seen speeding on West Thames Street just before the 1:30 a.m. crash. 

    Shortly after a police officer came upon the crashed car. The driver, who was conscious and alert, was trapped inside the car. The car was stabilized and the victim was extricated in 45 minutes. The patient was brought to Backus Hospital. Police said the victim sustained non life-threatening injuries. 

    Police are investigating the crash and no charges were filed as of Sunday afternoon.
