Man rescued after canoe capsized off Esker Point
Groton — A 27-year-old man was rescued Tuesday morning after his canoe capsized off of Esker Point, according to town police.
Spicer’s Marina workers recovered the man, who was wearing a life jacket, as first responders were arriving, town police said in a news release.
The Groton Emergency Communications Center had received a 911 call about 8:22 a.m. reporting that a man fell overboard and was clinging to the side of another small boat. People in several small boats had been duck hunting off Esker Point.
Groton Town Police, Noank Fire Department, Groton Long Point Fire Department, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital paramedics and Mystic River Ambulance responded, and the man was treated on scene but refused further medical treatment, the news release said.
Marina workers and Groton Town Police Marine unit members helped recover the canoe, the release said.
