Trailers, wood chipper stolen from East Lyme Public Works recovered

East Lyme — Two trailers and a wood chipper reported stolen from the Public Works building earlier this week were recovered after the truck being sought by East Lyme police was spotted in Manchester and traced to its owner, police said.

East Lyme police had circulated photos of the Ford F-250 truck being sought in connection with the thefts, and a citizen in Manchester spotted the vehicle and reported it to police, East Lyme Police Chief Michael Finkelstein said Thursday in an email update on the incident.

The investigation led police to “another community,” where multiple items, including the two trailers and wood chipper stolen from East Lyme, were located, Finkelstein wrote.

“East Lyme Officers continue investigating the theft of property and will be working to secure an arrest warrant for the accused, who is currently incarcerated on unrelated charges,” Finkelstein wrote in the email.

Connecticut State Police from Troop K Colchester and Manchester police have assisted in this investigation.

The two trailers and wood chipper were reported stolen over the past week from the East Lyme Public Works Department. Photos released by police showed the Ford F-250 while an individual was observed on multiple occasions on the property during overnight hours.
