UPDATED: One killed, one injured in head-on crash Wednesday in Stonington

Stonington — One man was killed and a woman injured when their cars crashed head-on Wednesday morning on Pequot Trail.

At 7:32 a.m., police, fire and emergency medical crews responded to the area of 1190 Pequot Trail, near the intersection of Back Acres Way, for a report of a two-car accident.

Stonington police Capt. Todd Olson said one of the involved vehicles appears to have crossed into the path of the other vehicle. The man was driving one car and the woman the other. One of the drivers had to be extricated from the vehicle by Old Mystic firefighters.

The woman was transported by Mystic Ambulance to Westerly Hospital for treatment. The man was taken by Groton Ambulance to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London and then flown by Life Star helicopter to another facility, where he died.

Olson said police would release the names of those involved in the crash on Thursday after families are notified.

The regional accident reconstruction team is investigating the cause of the crash. Pequot Trail was closed to traffic for several hours.
