    Local roundup: Griswold blanks East Lyme in volleyball

    Griswold ― The Griswold volleyball team remained unbeaten with a 3-0 win over East Lyme on Friday night.

    Kuranda Ruggiero had 37 assists, five digs, four kills an ace and a block for the Wolverines (3-0), who won 25-23, 25-16, 25-18. Abby Matheson had 12 kills, 17 digs, two aces and a block, Gretta Dombkowski had 10 kills, 15 digs and three aces and Emily Aviles had 20 digs for Griswold.

    Skylar Bell had 22 digs and Abby Parulis had eight kills for East Lyme (1-2).

    In other matches:

    • Fitch rallied after losing the first set to beat Waterford 3-1. Katie Tuohy had three blocks and 13 kills, Maddie Fancher had 16 kills, Annalynn Cahill had 15 kills and Trinity Sweat two aces for Fitch (2-1), which won 22-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-21. Lillian Steinhaus had 22 assists, nine digs and six aces, Marina Colonis had 17 kills, 10 digs and four aces, Emerson Lane had seven kills and three digs and Mia Petrini had 12 digs for Waterford (2-3).

    • Bacon Academy blanked NFA 25-14, 25-18, 25-12. Kiera Stewart had 16 assists, Meghan Walsh had five kills and four aces and Grace Gorreck had six kills and three aces for Bacon (3-1). Katelyn Friday had five kills, Evelina Klyukin had six kills and Jillian Dykema had nine digs for NFA (0-2).

    • Norwich Tech beat Windham Tech 3-2 in a Connecticut Technical Conference match. Autumn Hanks had 18 assists for Norwich Tech, which won 23-25, 25-15, 25-22, 17-25, 15-9. Kaylee Gray had 11 kills and three aces and Abby Ulrich had seven kills and four aces for Norwich Tech (1-3, 1-1).

    • Lyman Memorial blanked Montville 25-19, 25-13, 25-16. Arianna Garcia had three aces and 12 digs, Mia Attardi had eight digs, Kassidy LaTour had 14 kills and 10 assists, Erica Arpin had 13 digs and Carlee DeRoehn had six kills and seven assists for Lyman (4-1). Aylna Ovalles and Mackenzie Payne each eight digs each and Grace Buecker had six assists, three digs and two aces for Montville (1-3).

    • Old Lyme lost to Haddam-Killingworth 3-1 in a Shoreline Conference match. Quinn Arico had seven assists, Peighton Andrews had 12 digs and Kaitlyn Ward had three kills for the Wildcats (1-2, 1-2), who lost 22-25, 25-23, 17-25, 23-25.

    H.S. field hockey

    • Westbrook/Old Lyme played to a scoreless tie with Valley Regional in a Shoreline Conference game. Abby Demers made seven saves for Westbrook/OL (1-2-1).

    • Izzy Ash and Sophie Ash each had two goals and one assist as Fitch remained unbeaten with a 6-0 ECC win over Woodstock Academy on Thursday. Ashleigh Holmes added a goal and an assist for the Falcons (3-0, 2-0) while Brooke Bergendahl scored a goal, Sophie Kollar and Alice Hu each had assists and goalie Abriel Carey made three saves.

    H.S. swimming

    • Jill Arcilla won an event and was on a winning relay team as Fitch/Stonington/Wheeler/New London beat Ledyard 70-54 in an ECC meet. Arcilla won the 100 butterfly and teamed with Ashlyn Dunn, Addison Fulling and Anna Orphanides to win the 200 medley relay. Valerie Conley, Laura Letellier, Abby Urgo and Jai-Lynn Wheeler also won events for Fitch (2-0, 2-0). Katelyn Patton and Thelma Grogan won events for Ledyard (0-3, 0-3).

    College volleyball

    • Conn College opened New England Small College Athletic Conference play with a 3-2 loss to Colby. Katherine Randall had 20 kills and 12 digs for the Camels.

    • Freshman Allie Wildsmith had eight kills and four blocks as Coast Guard beat Trinity 3-0 on Thursday night. The Bears (9-1) won 25-20, 25-21, 25-23. Shannon Shaw had 12 kills, Noelle Tursky had had 20 assists and seven kills, Maeve Duffin had 16 assists and Kaela France had 18 digs for Coast Guard.
