    H.S. roundup: Stonington girls still spotless in ECC D-II soccer

    Stonington — Stonington remained unbeaten and atop the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II girls’ soccer race with a 2-0 victory over Waterford on Saturday night.

    Isabela deCastro and Carly Constantine scored first-half goals for the Bears (6-1, 4-0) with Finnella O’Keefe and Iliana Rashleigh each recording an assist.

    Kelsea Anderson posted the shutout in goal for Stonington, which dropped the Lancerse to 3-2-1, 0-2-1.

    In other matches:

    • Maddie McLeod scored three goals and Megan Armstong had three assists to highlight Ledyard’s 6-0 victory over Griswold. Delaney Vaudrey added a goal and two assists for the Colonels (4-1-1) while Jess English and Helena Robinson each scored a goal, Victoria Vidal had an assist and goalies Bella Drummond and Jess Dudley combined for the shutout.

    • Abbie Belleville and Riddi Venkatesh figured in both goals as East Lyme earned a 2-0 non-league win over RHAM. Belleville, assisted by Venkatesh, gave the Vikings (5-1) a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute and Belleville set up Venkatesh for an insurance goal in the second half. Goalie Sam Rodes made there saves for East Lyme, which held an 18-8 edge in shots.

    • Alex Tabilas converted a direct kick in the second half for the game’s only goal as Norwich Free Academy defeated Old Saybrook 1-0 in a non-league matchup. Goalie Ava Boenig made four saves for the Wildcats (2-3-1), who held a 6-5 edge in shots.

    • Late goals by Mia Hageman and Alyssa Blanchette lifted Bacon Academy to a 2-0 victory over Killingly in an ECC Division II match. Hageman scored in the 63rd minute for the Bobcats (4-1, 2-1) and Blanchette converted a corner kick from Anna LeGault in the 78th minute.

    • Magda Carpenter scored four goals as Lyman Memorial rolled to a 5-1 ECC Division IV win over Wheeler. Avery Volle also scored for the Bulldogs (5-0-1, 2-0) while Leah Comeroski and Haley Cardinali added assists and goalie Phoebe Carpenter made one save. Katie Pierce scored for the Lions (2-4, 0-3) and Jillian Comeau made 10 saves.

    • Skylar Frost scored her 10th goal of the season during the Williams School’s 5-1 loss to St. Andrew’s on Friday in Barrington, R.I. The Blues are 2-1-1.

    Boys’ soccer

    • Goals by Colby Cowan and Chris Baukus helped Montville defeat Killingly 2-0 in an ECC Division III match. Brendan Duhamel added an assist for Montville (4-1-1, 1-1) while goalie Jayden Burrell made four saves.

    • Rood Apolon had three goals and two assists during NFA’s 5-1 ECC Division I win over Fitch on Friday night. Louis Hawkins added a goal and an assist for the Wildcats (2-2-1, 2-1) while Dante Guarnaccia had a goal and Landon Sage an assist.

    Volleyball

    • Killingly defeated New London 25-10, 25-9 and 25-14 in an ECC Division III game. Serenity Lancaster had six kills, three blocks and eight service points for the Whalers (0-6, 0-1) while Nalyce Dudley finished with five kills and 15 digs, and Nyarah Dudley and LizValerie Velez had 15 digs apiece.

    • Valley Regional got the best of Old Lyme 25-23, 25-19 and 25-15 in the Shoreline Conference. The Wildcats (2-4, 2-4) were led by Jamie Bucior with five kills and 12 digs while Grace Phaneuf added 10 assists and Peighton Andrews had 18 digs.

    • Norwich Free Academy won a five-set marathon against Woodstock in ECC Division I action on Friday night. Game scores were 25-22, 19-25, 25-21, 19-25 and 16-14. Evelina Klyukin had seven kills, four blocks and three aces while Ella Bean chipped in 16 assits and Norah Tracy had eight digs, five kills and three aces for the Wildcats (2-2, 1-0).

    • Wheeler rallied past Montville for a 3-2 win in ECC Division IV action on Friday night. Game scores were 20-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-21 and 15-6. Anna Ruggeri had nine aces, Skyler Morgan seven blocks and Abby Butremovic 23 digs for the Lions (2-4, 1-0). Reagan Buscetto had six assists, four kills and for digs for Montville (1-6, 0-1) while Ava Collins added nine digs, three kills and two aces and Zoie Farrar 15 digs, three kills and two aces.

    Field hockey

    • Olivia Brown scored both goals on penalty corners as Avon defeated Stonington 2-0 in a non-league game. Madi Allard made 16 saves in goal for the Bears (4-2), who were outshot 18-0.

    Cross country

    • New London’s Olivia Crane-Benjamin had a Top 20 finish in the girls’ small schools freshman race at the Ocean State Invitational in Rhode Island. Crane-Benjamin placed 16th in 19:09.7. In the boys’ small schols freshman race, the Whalers’ Jamir Hall was 50th in 17:19.3.

    Hockey

    • The Norwich Hockey Club improved to 5-0 with a 4-1 win over the 95 Giants in Amherst, Mass. Thomas Hickey and Jacob Martineau each had one goal and one assist, Tyler Pazin and Xavier Ayotte had two assists apiece, and Paris Speller and Mathis Gagnon each had a goal.
