    Local college roundup: Alvarado leads Mitchell men to victory

    New London – Flavio Alvarado of New London scored all three goals as the Mitchell College men’s soccer team opened New England Collegiate Conference play with a 3-0 win over Lesley on Saturday.

    Matt Ladd of Griswold had two assists, Stephen Contreras had an assist and Mystic’s Joey Rosa made four saves for the Mariners (3-6).

    In other games:

    • Former Stonington standout RJ Parrilla scored a goal as Babson beat Coast Guard 3-0 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference game. Mitchell Collins had two assists for Babson (8-2-2, 4-0). Josh Hudson made three saves for Coast Guard (7-2-2, 1-2-1).

    • Matt Scoffone scored in the 54th minute as Connecticut College beat Williams 1-0 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game. Maurice Pigola assisted on the goal and Pete Silvester made eight saves for the Camels (5-2-2, 2-2-1).

    Women’s soccer

    • Coast Guard and Curry played to a 2-2 tie in the NEWMAC. Chase Merrick and Kelly Wade scored both goals, Riley Vicinanzo had an assist and Emily Scharnitzky made three saves for the Bears (4-5-2, 1-3-1).

    • Mitchell lost to Lesley 2-0 in its NECC opener. Gemma Landry made 19 saves for Mitchell (4-6-1).

    • Williams scored in the 17th minute and went on to beat Conn College 1-0 in the NESCAC. Sarah Hall made seven saves for Conn (6-3-1, 2-2-10).

    Men’s cross country

    • Jeffrey Love of Conn College won Westfield State’s James Early Invitational, completing the 8K race in 24:55 and leading the Camels to a second-place finish. Conn’s Chris Verstandig was fourth in 25:35 and teammates Blake Rogers (27th, 26:57), Robbie Lynch (30th, 27:07), Robert DiNatale (45th, 27:28) and Max Notarnicola (46th, 27:29) also finished in the top 50. RPI won the team title with 45 points, and Conn had 100.

    Women’s cross country

    • Conn College finished 10th at Westfield’s James Early Invite. Anna Batelli led the Camels with a 42nd-place finish (20:29). Caitlyn Horgan was 49th (20:32) and Caitlin Bird was 51st (20:33) for Conn.

    Field hockey

    • Emily Batchelor scored three goals as Williams beat Conn College 7-0 in the NESCAC. Sophie Munoz made 10 saves for Conn (2-8, 0-6).

    Men’s water polo

    • Conn College lost a pair of matches at home, falling to MIT 12-4 and Harvard 20-6. Christian Jacobsen scored five of Conn’s 10 goals and Chase Fichtner scored twice. Sam Guy, Matthew Maischoss and Carson Neidert also scored for the Camels (1-6). Conn’s Sebastian Parilov made 15 saves against MIT and Cully MacPherson made seven saves against Harvard.

    Volleyball

    • Hamilton swept Conn College in a NESCAC match, 25-22, 25-18, 25-22. Natasha Shrivastava had 12 assists and eight digs, Olivia Dow had 14 assists and seven digs, Riley Lord had 13 kills, Julia Dailey had 11 digs and Christina Leduc had seven kills for Conn (6-8, 1-6).

    Men’s hockey

    • Chase Bradley scored 1:49 into overtime as UConn beat Union 4-3. Jake Flynn, Nick Capone and Jake Percival scored goals, Ryan Tverberg, Ty Amonte, John Spetz, Matthew Wood and Bradley had assists and Arsenii Sergeeve made 27 saves for the Huskies (4-0). UConn beat Union 4-1 on Friday night. Bradley had a goal and an assist and Hudson Schandor, Capone and Percival scored goals.
