    Local roundup: Coast Guard beats Conn College in volleyball

    New London – Coast Guard beat host Connecticut College 3-1 in a non-league volleyball match on Thursday night.

    Noelle Tursky led Coast Guard (17-6) with 21 kills and teammates Shannon Shaw and Sarah Somer had 10 kills each. Maeve Duffin had 25 assists and 15 digs for the Bears, who won 21-25, 25-15, 25-22, 27-25.

    Riley Lord had 16 kills, Christina Leduc and Katherine Randall had seven kills each, Natasha Shrivastava had 19 assists and Julia Dailey had 16 digs for Conn (7-11).

    H.S. field hockey

    • Samantha Silva had a goal and an assist as Waterford beat Killingly 3-1 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference game. Lauren Santos and Lauren Montanari scored goals, Katie Jamroga had an assist and Kameryn Mazzulli and goalie Emma Smathers led the defense for the Lancers (5-8, 5-5).

    H.S. girls’ soccer

    • Plainfield beat New London 5-0 in an ECC Division III game. Junior captain Italia Salls made 42 saves for the Whalers (1-11, 0-7).

    H.S. volleyball

    • Ledyard swept Windham, winning 25-18, 25-15, 25-10. Grace Haydash had eight kills, Layla Lassisomphone had nine assists and five digs and Keira Opelinik had three blocks and three aces for Ledyard (7-12). Aniya Jenkins had seven kills and 16 digs to lead Windham.

    • Unbeaten Griswold swept Putnam, winning 25-4, 25-3, 25-10. Kaitlin Fasula had 16 assists and two aces, Makayla Neilson had six kills and three digs, Gretta Dombkowski had six aces and three kills and Abby Matheson had 12 kills and four digs for the Wolverines (15-0).

    H.S. boys’ soccer

    • Bacon Academy beat Fitch 2-0. Colby Butterfield and Steven Laliberte scored goals and Evan St. Louis made five saves for Bacon (10-1-2). Fitch is 4-10.

    • Ryan Turner scored off a free kick from Sawyer Van Lew with 21 seconds left in the second overtime to lead Stonington to a 4-3 win over Waterford in an ECC Division II game on Wednesday night. Jace Wolfradt, Sal Alessio and Connor Tavares scored goals and Andres Dahl, Jackson McCartney and Brett Caron had assists for Stonington (9-3-3, 5-2).

    • Sebby Fieldsend had a goal and two assists as Ledyard beat New London 8-1 in an ECC Division II game on Wednesday. Justin Vincent had his first varsity goal and assist, Nate Vidal, Peyton Luther, Cam Weber, Ben Crowe, Sean Harren and Finn Scully had goals and Ben Fieldsend and Jack Smith had assists for the Colonels (7-5-1, 4-1-1). Niko Churis scored his sixth goal of the season for New London (0-11-1, 0-7).

    • Windham beat Lyman Memorial 7-2 in an ECC Division III game on Wednesday night. Jeremiah Bobbi and Joseph Michele scored goals and Cody Rahmann had an assist for Lyman (3-8-1, 1-4-1). Abimael Garcia-Mendez and Omar Lopez-Gomez each scored twice for Windham.

    H.S. cross country

    • The Williams School hosted a 1.3-mile race with The Country School and Pine Point. The top finisher in the boys’ race for the Blues was Eddie Keane in 10th place at 8:30 followed by Max Romilly in 8:32.

    Sabine Balentine was the top finisher in the girls’ race for Williams in 12th place at 9:25. She was followed by Carlie Burke (14th, 10:11) and Gabby Ivy (15th, 10:46).
