    Around the region

    Mia Londregan (St. Bernard), a standout defender, recently completed a successful career as a member of the Marymount University women’s soccer team. She served as captain the last two seasons and appeared in 74 career games, starting 71.

    Sophomore Emily DeRoehn (Old Lyme) chipped in a goal in Johnson & Wales’ 2-1 win over Lasell University in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference women’s soccer tournament final on Saturday, earning the Wildcats (19-2-1) their third straight automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament. She scored on a free kick from just past midfield to hand her team a 1-0 lead early in the first half. Caroline Wallace (Old Lyme), a senior midfielder, also contributed to the win.

    Senior Sam Whittaker (East Lyme) was the top finisher for the Bucknell men’s cross country team in the Patriot League Championships, finishing 15th overall and ending up just one tenth of a second out of a spot on the All-Patriot League team. The Bison, who placed fourth overall, will compete in the Mid-Atlantic Regional in University Park, Pa., on Friday.

    Wesleyan senior defensive tackle Nick Helbig (Fitch), the reigning New England Small College Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year, was named NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week after he had a team-high eight tackles, 1.5 sacks and one forced fumble in a 35-21 win over Williams on Saturday. He ranks first in the conference in forced fumbles with five and second in both tackles for loss (11.5) and sacks (eight).

    RJ Parrilla (Stonington) and his Babson College men’s soccer team will play in the NCAA Division III tournament. A senior starter, he has one goal and two assists this season for Babson, which won its third straight NEWMAC tournament title.

    Forward Zacary Crawford (Lyman Memorial) is heading to the NCAA Division III tournament with his Worcester State men’s soccer team. Worcester State earned a postseason bid by winning the MASCAC tournament championship.

    Sophomore Delaney Farinha (Norwich Free Academy) set career highs for goals (four) and (assists) this season playing for Franklin Pierce women’s soccer team. Franklin Pierce (14-3-2), ranked 14th in the country, is expected to earn an at-large bid in the NCAA Division II tournament.

    Sophomore wide receiver Colbe Andrews (Old Lyme and the Valley/OL co-op) had one catch for 18 yards in New Haven’s 50-6 rout of Franklin Pierce on Saturday.

    Springfield junior Blane Hart (East Lyme) rushed for 28 yards on seven carries and brother Cam added two tackles in a 16-14 win over MIT on Saturday. The Pride improved to 7-2 overall, 5-0 in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference.

    Also at Springfield, Sarah Healy (East Lyme) appeared in eight games in her first season as a member of the field hockey team while twin sister Meredith finished with three goals and appeared in 15 games, starting six, for the women’s soccer team.

    Forward Hannah Daniewicz (NFA) had a terrific freshman season for the Salve Regina women’s soccer team, leading the way in goals (seven), assists (four) and points (18).

    Junior defender Lexi LaPerle (Ledyard) had an assist in the Curry College women’s soccer team’s 4-2 win over Salve Regina on Oct. 29. She played in 17 games, starting 16, and contributed a career-high and team-high tying five assists this season for Curry, which went 10-6-3.

    Setter Meg Verizzi (Lyman Memorial) finished her senior season by contributing 31 assists and nine digs in the Eastern Connecticut State University volleyball team’s 3-0 loss to Plymouth State in the Little East Conference tournament semifinals. Junior Nora Ryan (Fitch) had team highs in kills (12) and blocks (five) for Plymouth (21-8).

    Freshman midfielder Sam Blumberger (Bacon Academy) and freshman defender Micah Diggs (Fitch) helped the Bloomsburg University men’s soccer team reach the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament championship game.

    Emmanuel College forward Liam Cook (Montville) started three games, appeared in 14 and scored two goals in his first season playing for the Saints (7-5-7).

    Senior outside hitter Sydney Iannantuono (East Lyme) made the GNAC All-tournament team while helping Simmons College reach the title game. In three tournament games, Iannantuono had 24 kills and 44 digs.

    Alex Ard (Waterford), a sophomore defender, started 13 games for the Bryant University men’s soccer team and had an assist. Midfielder Daimon Pollard (Ledyard) made six appearances in his first season.
