    Stonington – Anna Lettiere scored 5:39 into the second overtime as Stonington beat No. 14 Weston 2-1 in the second round of the CIAC Class S field hockey tournament on Tuesday.

    Lettiere took a pass from Emma Spathakis as she cut toward the left post. She controlled the ball and put a backhand shot inside the right post.

    No. 3 Stonington (15-2-1) hosts No. 6 Granby in a quarterfinal on Thursday at 5 p.m. Granby beat Valley Regional 2-0 on Tuesday.

    Brianna Plew gave the Bears a 1-0 lead 1:06 into the game with an assist by Lettiere. Weston tied the game on a goal by Kayla Schiffer 8:15 into the second quarter.

    Goalie Madi Allard made several key save for Stonington, including breaking up a fast-break in overtime. Bella Spaulding, Shay Burnside, Emily Obrey and Spathakis sparked the defense.

    In other games:

    • No. 4 Immaculate defeated No. 13 Westbrook/Old Lyme 7-0 in the Class S second round. Westbrook/OL finishes its season 9-8-2.

    H.S. girls’ soccer

    • Emily Ferrigno and Alyssa Blanchette scored goals in the first half as No.10 Bacon Academy cruised to a 4-0 win over No. 23 Seymour in the Class M first round. Olivia Hightower also scored for the Bobcats (11-3-4), who will visit No. 7 Plainfield in Thursday’s second round at 2 p.m. Plainfield defeated No. 26 International/AAE 7-0 in the first round.

    • No. 18 Old Lyme defeated No. 15 Housatonic Valley 3-1 in the Class S first round. Alexis Fenton had a goal and an assist, Beatrice Hunt scored a goal and Calla Gibson made three saves for the Wildcats. Old Lyme (8-7-3) will play at No. 2 East Catholic, which received a first-round bye, in Thursday’s second round at 2 p.m.

    • No. 19 Guilford edged No. 14 Ledyard 2-1 in the Class L first round. Cassie Rice, assisted by Maddie McLeod, scored for the Colonels, who finish 10-7-1, while goalie Jess Dudley made 10 saves.

    • No. 7 Suffield advanced to the Class L second round with a 3-1 first-round victory over No. 26 Waterford. The Lancers, who finish 6-9-2, trailed 2-0 at the half before Camryn Dickinson converted a pass from Charlotte Jessuck with 14 minutes to play to close the deficit to 2-1, but Suffield scored an insurance goal with five minutes left. Waterford goalie Victoria Sturm made eight saves, including two on breakaways.

    • No. 17 East Lyme’s season ended with a 3-0 loss to No. 16 Ellington in the Class L first round. The Vikings finish 10-7.

    • No. 12 Cromwell ousted No. 21 Montville from the Class M tournament with a 6-0 victory in the first round. Montville finishes 8-8-2.

    H.S. volleyball

    • No. 3 Fitch blanked No. 14 Killingly in a Class M first-round match, winning 25-15, 25-22, 25-17. Annalyn Cahill had 16 kills, Katie Tuohy and Maddy Fancher combined for 18 kills and Bella Ditmore had 30 assist and 12 kills for the Falcons (14-5), who play at No. 2 Suffield on Thursday.

    • No. 15 Immaculate defeated No. 18 Norwich Tech 25-18, 25-14 and 25-16 in the Class S first round on Monday night. Caitlyn Flynn had nine digs for the Warriors, who finish the season 11-11.

    H.S. boys’ soccer

    • Ben Xenelis scored in overtime to lift Williams School to a 3-2 win over Forman in the first round of the Housatonic Valley Athletic League tournament. Calvin Neff scored the other two goals for the Blues (6-10).

    College honors

    • UConn freshman running back Victor Rosa, the ex-Bristol Central star, earned a spot on the Week 10 Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll after helping lead the Huskies to a 27-10 win over UMass last Friday. Rosa carried the ball 17 times (a seaosn high) for 87 yars and a pair of touchdowns, his team-high fifth and sixth of the season.

    The Paul Hornung Award is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission. The winner and his family will be honored at the annual Paul Hornung Award dinner in downtown Louisville in March 2023.

    • Connecticut College freshman Bridget McGann (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) was named to the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference second team in field hockey. McGann started all 15 games, leading the Camels in scoring with 11 goals and three assists for 25 points. She recorded a pair of game-winning goals and also notched three multi-goal games, including a four-goal effort in a win over Wesleyan on the final day of the regular season.

    “To be named All-NESCAC at any point in one’s career is a tremendous accomplishment and, as a first-year, even more so,” head coach Chrissy Chappell said in a release. “Along with her statistics, Bridget’s positive, team-first attitude and unwavering competitive drive earned her the respect of teammates and coaches throughout the season. This conference recognition is a testament to her on-field impact and to the growth of our field hockey program.”
