    Local roundup: Fitch knocks off No. 4 New London

    Groton — Dre’Ana Singleton hit two free throws with 7 seconds remaining for the final margin as the Fitch High School girls’ basketball team edged No. 4 New London 49-46 Friday night.

    Mariette El Khoury had 19 points, Gabby Dimock 13 points and Meleeya Robbins eight rebounds for Fitch (4-2), which trailed 29-22 at halftime but outscored the Whalers 17-7 in the third quarter to grab the lead. El Khoury scored 11 points in the third for the Falcons.

    Nalyce Dudley had 22 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals for New London (4-2) and Serenity Lancaster had 20 points, five rebounds and five blocks.

    In other games:

    • Norwich Tech outscored Grasso Tech 13-2 in the second quarter and went on to a 35-29 victory in the Connecticut Technical Conference game. Hannah Ross had 11 points, Emily Grant scored 10, Abigail Ulrich had 14 rebounds and Autumn Hanks had 12 rebounds for Norwich Tech (2-5). Sophie Byrne led Grasso (1-5) with 12 points.

    • St. Bernard beat Putnam 47-35 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division IV game. Angelica Tompkins had 18 points and Gemma Tonucci scored 15 for the Saints (3-4, 2-0).

    • Unbeaten Coginchaug topped Old Lyme 59-30 in a Shoreline Conference game. Ava Roth had 21 points and seven steals for Old Lyme (1-6, 1-4). Allison Sambor led Coginchaug (8-0) with 11 points.

    • Williams School lost to Christian Heritage 44-16. Marlee Anselmi led Williams (0-4) with eight points.

    • Abby Matheson had 19 points and 10 steals as Griswold beat Putnam 49-33 Thursday. Natalie Becotte scored 14 for Griswold (3-4).

    H.S. boys’ basketball

    • Griswold beat Stonington 84-69 in the battle of ECC Division III unbeatens. Christian Russell had 24 points, Jeff Souvenance scored 17, Evan Merchant scored 16 and Lucas Strain had 11 points for Griswold (8-0, 4-0). Luke Lowry had 25 points, Aaron LoPresto scored 19 and Alex DeBerry had 13 points for Stonington (3-4, 3-0).

    • Caden Monte had 18 points, including the go-ahead basket in the final 10 seconds, as Old Lyme topped Coginchaug 50-49 in the Shoreline Conference. Alex Olsen added 10 points for Old Lyme (3-2, 3-2). Jayson Penney had 18 points for Coginchaug.

    • Fitch beat Bacon Academy 69-42. J.J. Robinson had 13 points, Jacob Francis scored 12 and Kevin Saintvil-Ravix and Mike Wagner had 11 points each for Fitch (5-2). Luke Grimord had 12 points and Elijah Black scored 10 for Bacon (2-5).

    • Tony Williams scored 25 points as NFA beat East Lyme 76-53 in an ECC Division I game. Armanee Davis had 14 points for NFA (3-4, 1-2). Brendan Osso had 12 points and Gavin O’Brien scored 10 for East Lyme (2-4, 0-2).

    • Keron Wilson scored points to lead Grasso Tech to a 61-54 win over Norwich Tech in a CTC game. Caleb Brennan had 16 points and Tito Arias scored 11 for Grasso (2-4). Bradley Saint Louis had 16 points, Jack Gahrman scored 13 and Josh Hanks had 10 points for Norwich Tech (0-6).

    • Woodstock went on a 24-4 run in the second quarter and beat Ledyard 61-37 in an ECC Division II game. Peyton Luther led Ledyard (0-7, 0-5) with 20 points. Brandon Nagel had 16 points and Hunter Larson scored 11 for Woodstock (2-6, 1-2).

    • Waterford lost to Windham 70-63 in an ECC Division II game. Logan Peabody scored 26 points, Juan Morel Jr. had 15 points, 18 rebounds and three blocks and CJ Landry had nine rebounds for Waterford (1-7, 1-2). Travis Mangual Jr. scored 27 for Windham.

    • Christian Heritage beat Williams School 6-38. Sam Kaplan led the Blues (0-4) with 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

    H.S. swimming

    • The Fitch co-op beat NFA 73-56 in an ECC meet which was the season opener for both teams. Michael Urgo, Jacob Lin, Evan Hespeler, Luke Lambert and Sohum Balsara won events for Fitch. Brendan Bezanson, Brendan Droesch and Alessa Palomino Salcedo won events for NFA.

    Women’s basketball

    • Coast Guard lost to Bryant & Stratton 79-74. Kira Wood had 25 points, Jacqueline Ward scored 14 and Julia Mann had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Coast Guard.

    • Connecticut College lost to Tufts in the New England Small College Athletic Conference opener for both teams, 55-38. Jaycie Rojik had 14 points and Molly Cronin scored 10 for Conn (4-8).

    Men’s basketball

    • David Murray had 16 points as 15 rebounds as Conn College beat Tufts 63-55 in the NESCAC opener for both teams. Cam Schainfeld and Andrew Hartel had 12 points each and Ben Rice scored 10 for Conn (10-4).

    Women’s hockey

    • Serena Seiple had two goals and an assist as Conn College beat Bowdoin 6-1 in a NESCAC game. Sydney Frank had a goal and an assist and Melanie Conca, Claire Sammons and Bridget McGann also scored for Conn (6-2, 4-2).

    Men’s hockey

    • Conn College lost to Albertus Magnus 4-1. Jake Hughes scored a goal and Jack Luca and Sean Detloff had assists for Conn (2-8).
