    H.S. basketball roundup: Wheeler boys edge Lyman in battle for ECC Div. IV lead

    North Stonington — Wheeler won its fifth straight game and took over sole possession of the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division IV boys’ basketball race with a 54-50 victory over Lyman Memorial on Friday night.

    The Lions (7-3, 4-0) also snapped Lyman’s four-game winning streak.

    Jaiden Lopez scored 18 points to lead the Bulldogs (7-3, 3-1) and Kevin Botticello added 17.

    In other games:

    • Jeff Souvenance scored 17 points as Griswold held on to beat Ledyard 68-56. Michael Strain had 15 points for the Wolverines (9-1). Liam Stalbush scored a game-high 20 points, including four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, for the Colonels (0-9).

    • Cedrick Similien scored 27 points as St. Bernard beat East Lyme 73-52 in an ECC Division I game. Amare Marshall had 13 points and Ryan Outlow scored 11for the Saints (8-2, 3-0). Michael Timpano had 14 points and Oliver Hibbard scored 10 for the vikings (3-6, 0-3).

    • Waterford scored 24 points in the fourth quarter to overtake Woodstock Academy 51-46 in an ECC Division II game. Juan Morel Jr. had eight points, 19 rebounds, three blocks and three assists for the Lancers (3-7, 2-2) while Logan Peabody had 13 points and three steals, Evan Piotrowski had 11 points and four rebounds and C.J. Landry had 10 points and five rebounds.

    • Elijah Black scored 25 points as Bacon Academy beat Plainfield 52-30 in an ECC Division III game. Luke Grimond had 10 points for the Bobcats (3-6, 1-3). Brendan McCool led Plainfield (2-6, 0-4) with 13 points.

    • Montville beat Tourtellotte 70-43 in an ECC Division IV game. Lebron Maurice scored 37 points for Montville (4-4, 2-2).

    • Caleb Brennan and Charis Johnson scored 20 points apiece in Grasso Tech’s 79-74 loss to Windham Tech in the Connecticut Technical Conference East. Rome Brown added 15 points and Keron Wilson 12 for the Eagles(2-7, 2-1).

    Girls

    • No. 7 Bacon Academy overcame a six-point halftime deficit to remain unbeaten with a 48-40 ECC Division II road over against Killingly. Marissa Nudd scored 13 points for the Bobcats (10-0, 3-0) while freshman Skyelyn Schoen-Rene scored a career high 12 points, Emily Ferrigno had eight rebounds and seven assists and Katelyn Novak added 10, including five straight in the closing moments to seal win.

    • Helena Robinson had a double-double (14 points, 12 rebounds) to highlight Ledyard’s 69-25 victory over Montville. Maggie Dykes added 16 points and five steals for the Colonels (5-5) while Kiera Kirvan scored 14 points and Adrianna Hardison had five assists. Jada Cheung scores 21 points for Montville (1-8), including three 3-pointers.

    • Norwich Tech rallied from a five-point deficit after three quarters to edge Ellis Tech 40-37 in a Connecticut Technical Conference East game. Two free throws by Autumn Hanks with 3.4 seconds left sealed the win for the Warriors (3-7, 2-1). Hanks finished with 16 points while Olivia Luurtsema added 10 points, Abigail Ulrich had 15 rebounds and Lilliana Doak had 12 rebounds.

    • St. Bernard remained undefeated in ECC Division IV play with a 29-22 win over Tourtellotte. Angelica Tompkins scored 29 points and Morghan Kuhn had five points and 12 rebounds for the Saints (5-4, 3-0).

    • Cromwell took a 29-3 lead after one quarter and beat Old Lyme 66-24 in a Shoreline Conference game. Ava Roth led the Wildcats (1-8, 1-6) with 12 points.

    • Jenny Lopez and Kassidy LaTour scored 14 points each as Lyman Memorial beat Griswold 43-35 on Thursday. Phoebe Carpenter had eight rebounds and five blocks, Taylor Pankowski had eight rebounds, Kelsey Dunnack had five steals, Lopez had five assists, nine rebounds and five steals and LaTour had six rebounds for the Bulldogs (6-3). Abby Matheson scored 16 of her 17 points in the second half for Griswold (3-6).

    • Izzy Pazzaglia scored 14 points as East Lyme beat Montville 43-21 on Thursday. Bella Chambers and Ava Roach had seven points each for East Lyme (I2-8). Jada Cheung led Montville (1-7) with nine points.
