    Holmes back with Sun after signing training camp contract

    Montville — Joyner Holmes is returning to the Connecticut Sun after signing a training camp contract with the WNBA club on Wednesday.

    “We are delighted to welcome Joyner back,” Sun general manager Darius Taylor said in a release. “We’re looking forward to what her experience and growth can bring this upcoming season.”

    Holmes, a 6-foot-3 forward who played her collegiate career at Texas, was drafted by the Seattle Storm in the second round (No. 19 overall) in the 2020 WNBA draft, but never played for the Storm.

    She did spend parts of two seasons with the New York Liberty in 2020 and 2021 before finishing the 2021 season with the Las Vegas Aces.

    Holmes spent the entire 2022 season in a reserve role with the Sun, playing in 26 regular season games and seven playoff games as Connecticut reached the the WNBA Finals before losing to Las Vegas.

    She is playing overseas this winter with Dynamo Sassari of the Italian League and is averaging 17.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.5 steals. She has 14 double-doubles and one triple-double when she had 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in an 89-75 win over Valdarno.
