    Local roundup: Bacon beats Lyman as Lopez scores his 1,000th point for Bulldogs

    Lebanon ― Bacon Academy rallied to beat Lyman Memorial 51-48 on a boys’ basketball game on Tuesday night as Lyman’s Jaiden Lopez scored his 1,000th career point.

    Luke Grimord of Bacon (9-9) gave his team its first lead of the second half at 48-46 with a basket with 1:33 left and broke a 48-48 tie with a 3-pointer with 36 seconds left.

    Lopez, who finished with 19 points, became the 15th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark when he did it in the second quarter. The last to do it was his brother David in 2018. Jordan Chandler had 16 points for Lyman (9-7).

    In other games:

    • Cedrick Similien scored 24 points to lead No. 9 St. Bernard to a 91-74 win over Ledyard. Tyson Wheeler had 16 points, Amare Marshall scored 15 and Alex Johnson had 13 points for the Saints (14-2), who won their 10th straight. Liam Stahlbush had 20 points, Peyton Luther scored 18, James Green had 12 points and Ethan Petrowski scored 10 for the Colonels (1-15).

    • Jeff Souvenance scored 29 points and had 14 rebounds as Griswold beat Montville 72-54. Michael Strain had 11 points as 16 rebounds and Christian Russell scored 10 for the Wolverines (15-2). Lebron Maurice scored 30 for Montville (6-9).

    • Tony Williams scored 29 points as Norwich Free Academy beat Woodstock Academy 64-52. Edwin Santana had 10 points for NFA (8-9).

    • Fitch rallied in the fourth quarter for a 49-41 win over East Lyme. The Falcons (12-4) trailed 26-25 after three quarters. East Lyme is 5-11.

    • Grasso Tech beat Vinal Tech 52-49 in a Connecticut Technical Conference game. Charis Johnson scored 16, Caleb Brennan had 12 points and Keron Wilson had 10 points for the Eagles (6-9).

    • Norwich Tech’s Jack Gahrman scored 25 points but the Warriors lost to Cheney Tech 93-75 in a CTC game. Malaki Mercado had 14 points and Josh Hanks and Collin Schultze had 11 points each for Norwich Tech (4-13).

    • Old Lyme overcame 17 turnovers to beat Westbrook 46-33 in the Shoreline Conference on Monday night. Caden Monte scored 18 points for the Wildcats (5-10, 5-9) and Calvin Monte finished with 11 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

    H.S. girls’ basketball

    • Lily Goyette scored 19 points to lead Putnam to a 46-43 win over Wheeler in an ECC Division IV game. Makayla Delzer had 18 points and10 rebounds, Marissa Perkins had 12 points and nine rebounds and Skyler Morgan had 13 rebounds for Wheeler (4-11, 2-6).

    • Plainfield beat Montville 65-43. Jada Cheung had a game-high 25 points and Ava Collins scored 10 for Montville (2-16). Maddie Nordstrom and Morgan Yonush each scored 16 for Plainfield.

    • Mariette El Khoury led a balanced attack with 16 points as Fitch outlasted Ledyard 60-52 on Monday night. Gabby Dimmock added 15 points and Dre’Ana Singleton 14 for the Falcons (11-7). Kieara Kirvin scored a game-high 22 points for the Colonels (10-8) and Adrianna Hardison added 14.

    Women’s basketball

    • Mitchell College won its fourth straight, beating Fisher 67-51. Amina Wiley had 12 points and nine rebounds, Jermia Dumas had 11 points and eight rebounds, Dede Stevenson had eight points, six rebounds and five assists and New London’s Jamya Beddoe scored 14 for the Mariners (13-9), who led 20-2 after one quarter. Madison Kelley scored 25 for Fisher (1-19.)

    H.S. wrestling

    • New London finished its regular season with a 47-28 victory over Griswold/Wheeler on Monday night. Ruben Rivera (113), Christian Ortiz (152), Jhandel Marichal (182) and Kaiden Smith (220) had pins for the Whalers (8-2) while Kanye Nance (160), Trevin Robledo Thompson (170) and Demarcus Green (285) each won by major decision. Cody Comeau (126), Ethan Sweet (132), Jeffrey Bentley (138) and Rylee Kenny (145) had consecutive pins for the Wolverines (14-11).
