The Connecticut Sun re-signed their top free agent on Monday as center Brionna Jones agreed to a one-year deal.

Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed as per team policy.

Connecticut had cored Jones, meaning that it had exclusive negotiating rights to put forward a contract offer for her to accept.

“We are so excited to have Breezy back,” first-year Sun head coach Stephanie White said in a release. “She’s a proven winner that has worked tirelessly to become one of the best players in our league. She impacts our team on the floor and in the locker room. She is a tremendous ambassador for our community.

“I can’t wait to work with her this summer.”

Jones has been crucial to Connecticut’s recent success and helped the Sun each their fourth WNBA Finals last season. She was the 2022 WNBA Sixth Player of the Year as well as the 2021 Most Improved Player.

Jones, 6-foot-3, played every game last season with seven starts. She averaged 25.1 minutes, 13.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals during the regular season and was fourth in the league in field goal percentage (56.9) and second in offensive rebounds (2.6). She has evolved into one of the league’s better post defenders.

“Brionna has played a significant role in the Sun’s success over the past few years,” said Darius Taylor, Connecticut’s first-year general manager. “We are super excited to have her stay in Connecticut and continue to watch her game flourish as we look to compete for a title this season and beyond.”

The Sun drafted the 27-year-old Jones eighth overall in 2017 out of Maryland.
