    Bacon Academy’s Dave Shea to be inducted into CT Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame

    Dave Shea, who won 778 games and three state championship over 49 seasons coaching the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams at Bacon Academy, will be inducted as a member of the Connecticut Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame on Sunday, April 23.

    Shea, who has the Bacon Academy gymnasium named in his honor, is a 1952 graduate of the school. He coached the boys’ basketball team to a record of 329-168 from 1962-85, including the 1981 Class S championship. Then, beginning in 1993, Shea coached the girls’ basketball program to a 449-140 record over 25 seasons with state championships in 2009 (Class M) and 2012 (Class L).

    He was inducted into the Connecticut High School Coaches’ Association Hall of Fame in 2004, to the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009 and was awarded a Gold Key by the Connecticut Sports Writers’ Alliance in 2012.

    Shea will be inducted into the Connecticut Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame along with former high school stars Symone Roberts (New Britain) and DaShena Stevens (Trinity Catholic), Western Connecticut State University all-time leading scorer Angela Mele-Craig, referee Roger Gautrau and Sandra Hamm, who was the first UConn women’s basketball coach in program history.

    The ceremony will be held at Cascade Banquet Facility in Hamden beginning at noon April 23. Tickets are $55 and may be obtained by calling Tina Gonyea at (203) 927-6581 or by emailing tlghoop@aol.com.
