    Local roundup: McAvoy, Conn College beat Williams in men’s lax

    New London — Aidan McAvoy scored five times and Jared Rainville added two goals and two assists as Connecticut College edged Williams on Saturday, 11-9, to win its first New England Small College Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse game of the season.

    Liam Horkan scored twice JJ Ford had a goal and an assist and Bobby Chang had two assists for Conn (2-3, 1-2). Will Rice added 14 saves.

    In other games:

    • Michael Emerick had five goals for Merchant Marine in its 19-12 win over Coast Guard in a New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference game. Waterford’s Caleb Holdridge had two goals and four assists, Taylor Gustafson scored five times and Ian Feely and Ryan Flynn both scored twice for Coast Guard (3-4, 0-1).

    Women’s lacrosse

    • Sarah Skurat had three goals and an assist and Caitlyn Coates and Laine Weber both scored three times as Coast Guard overwhelmed Clark, 21-3, to remain unbeaten in the NEWMAC.

    Gianna Cascio had two goals and an assist, Abby McAllister had a goal and two assists and Brenda Anderson, Addy Bass and Aislinn Murray all scored twice for the Bears (5-3, 3-0).

    • Claudia Russell had four goals as Williams downed Conn College, 17-4, in a NESCAC game. Kate Coughlin and Emily Yorns both scored twice for Conn (4-3, 0-3).
