    SEC National Football Foundation Hall of Fame announces its awards

    The Southeastern Connecticut Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame will hold their annual awards banquet on Sunday, April 30 at Lake of Isles Golf Club and Resort at 5 p.m.

    Scholar-athletes from each school in the chapter will be honored. They are Willie Klinefelter of Montville, DyShawn Mooney of New London, Danny Sims of Griswold, Evan Ezzell of Plainfield, Charles Cabusao of Fitch, Zachary Robinson-Smey of Windham, Jackson Poulton of Ledyard, Nicholas Maksim of East Lyme, Ben Jax of Killingly, Caleb Beetle of NFA, Jack Holmes of Bacon Academy, Jack Scahill of Stonington, Nathan DePerry of Waterford and Seth Cunningham of Thames River.

    Other award winners include Randall Prose of Windham (active coach), Mike Sypher of the Willimantic Chronicle (Bill Cawley Media Award), Adam Scott (officials award), Bethany Arico from Lake of Isles (presidents Award) and East Lyme Athletic Director Steve Hargis (Dick North Administrator Award).

    Rodney Butler, the Chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, will receive the Person of the Year award and Captain Fredrick Hewitt of the United States Marine Corps, will receive the Distinguised American award.

    The National Football Foundation Chapter Network, spread across 120 outposts in 47 states, encourages leadership, sportsmanship and academic excellence among America's high school football players.

    "Our chapter's fourteen recipients represent some of the best and brightest from more than 5,000 high schools covered by the national football foundation chapter network,’’ Southeastern Connecticut Chapter Vice President and Ledyard High School Athletic Director Jim Buonocore said in a release.

    “We are very proud of our local award winners for their hard work and success on the football field and in the classroom. These young men are outstanding representatives of their school communities and this honor represents all that is great about high school football. We look forward to recognizing our scholar-athletes and adult award winners."
