    H.S. track & field: NFA’s Graham wins girls’ shot put and discus at Old Lyme’s Wildcat Relays

    Old Lyme — Norwich Free Academy’s Hannah Graham captured individual honors in the girls’ shot put and discus during the two-day Wildcat Relays which ended Saturday at Old Lyme High School.

    Graham won the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 8 inches and the discus with a throw of 114-9 for NFA, while teammate LIly Gilbert won the pole vault by clearing 10-6.

    They were among a number of local athletes to win events.

    Host Old Lyme won three events that featured freshman distance star Chase Gilbert. Gilbert won the 3,200-meter race in a meet and school record time of 10 minutes, 39.15 seconds. She then teamed with Maddy Morgado, Zoe Eastman-Grossel and Lyla Powers to win the distance medley relay in a school record time of 12:43.07 and joined Gesa Vazquez and Kate Walsh to win the 3,200 team relay.

    Ledyard had three local winners with Megan Armstrong, Linda Holeman, Ella Stephenson and Kate Littler winning the sprint medley relay in 4:19.57, Anessa Robertson, Trinity Cason, Najeily Sanchez and Gabrielle Rader winning the 4x100 throwers relay in 58.71, and Holeman, Lillian Weirz and Trinity Cason taking the javelin relay with a total of 247 feet, 4 inches.

    Seconds went to NFA’s Alexis Boyer in the pole vault (9-6), Riley Davis in the long jump (15-7) and Kaitlyn Titus in the triple jump (32-.8.5), Waterford’s Avery Maiese in the 3,200 (11:50.25) and Erica Mugovero, Colleen Corman, Ava Lee and Maiese in the sprint medley relay (13:40.33), while thirds went to Old Lyme’s Powers, Alyssa Spooner, Eastman-Grossel and Gilbert in the 4x400 relay (4:17.60) and Ledyard’s Adelaide Culligan, Kylie Witherill and Emma Golembeski in the 100 hurdle relay (59.77), Keara Opalenik, Bella Schweitzer and Weirz in the high jump relay (12-8), and Sam Doran, Holeman and Opalenik in the long jump relay (41-8).

    In other girls’ meets:

    • New London’s Darielys Arnold and Kmara Royster played in two events apiece during the Hillhouse Invitational in New Haven. Arnold finished fourth in the 200-meter dash (26.4 seconds) and sixth in the 100 (12.96) while Royster was third both the 110 hurdles (16.96) and high jump (4 feet, 8 inches).

    • Stonington had a pair of third-place finishers at the Patriot Games in Coventry — Addison Labbe in the mile (5:57.19) and Marin Singletary in the triple jump (31-0.5) — while the Bears picked up fourths from Peyton Vandersloot in the mile (5:57.58) and the distance medley relay of Labbe, Vandersloot, Alexa Williams and Madelilne DeLaura (14:29.32).

    Boys

    • Dylan Sheehan of host Old Lyme won the discus (157-10) and shot put (49-5) at the Wildcat Relays, and the Wildcats also picked up wins from the 3,200 team relay of Dylan Hovey, Eric Dagher and George Williams, the distance medley relay of Harry Whitten, Hovey, Marco Supersano and Dagher (11:38.60) and the javelin relay of Calvin Monte, Caden Monte and Steffan Ryer.

    Waterford had three winners with Rhys Tucker capturing the high jump (5-6), Jonathan Booth the triple jump (39-5.25) and Brodie Scott, Evan Piotrowski, Alex Martinez and Gabriel Lombardo the 4x400 relay (3:35).

    Seconds went to Old Lyme’s 4x100 throwers relay of Rowan Hovey, Caden Monte, Copper Bowman and Sheehan (52.85), the shot put relay of Sheehan, Ryer and Calvin Monte, and the discus relay of Sheehan, Calvin Monte and Bowman; NFA’s DeAndre Decal in the shot put (47-1), Chris Amy in the discus (145-8) and David Smith, Jeremiah Paul, Roodkenson Sanon and Oliver Aubin in the 4x100 relay (45.44); and Waterford’s Jay Zimmerman in the pole vault (11-0), Booth in the long jump (19-5.5), the sprint medley relay of Eden Alexander, Lombardi, Matthew Allen and Zimmerman (3:58.92) and the distance medley relay of Luke Bartlett, Orrie Haggerty, Ian Rush and Titus Olson (11:58.73.)

    Thirds went to Old Lyme’s triple jump relay of Gabe Tooker, Nathan Morgan and Thomas Slusarz, NFA’s Amy in the shot (44-11), Joal Barros in the high jump (5-0), Gage Weber in the pole vault (10-6) and Mason Nixon in the long jump (19-2.75).

    • Stonington’s Josh Mooney won the 110 high hurdles (14.39) at the Patriot Games in Coventry and the Bears won the distance medley relay with Sergio deOliveira, Ryan Gruczka, Anders Dahl and Landon Pelletier finishing in 11:05.05.
